UEFA Cup and Super Cup holders Zenit lost at home to Real Madrid by its own goal. Real took the lead after Zenit’s Hubocan unintentionally put Rafael van der Vaart’s cross into his own goal. Andrei Arshavin who missed the match against Juventus scored the equalizer in the 25th minute. But six minutes later Ruud van Nisterlooy put Real back into the lead. The second half saw Zenit fight hard but Real was the better team tonight and went home with three points.
Fußball Arena München - Munich
Bayern Munich continues with mediocre performances and managed only a draw at home with Lyon. The French team actually went ahead on Bayern’s Martin Demichelis own goal. Then Ze Roberto came to the rescue of the German team in the 52nd minute with a header on a pass from Miroslav Klose. Bayern has four points in Group F, two ahead of Lyon.
The Emirates Stadium - London
Arsenal trashed FC Porto 4-0 by two goals each from Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor. What a chance after the weekend’s loss at home to Hull City. Arsenal was in total control of the match and it could have been a lot worse than just 4-0 for Porto. Van Persie opened the score in the 31st minute and Adebayor closed it from a penalty with nineteen minutes to go.
Dinamo - Minsk
Belarus champs BATE Borisov tooka surprise lead with a pair of quick goals in the 17th and 23rd minute in the match with Juventus. Juve responded in the 29th minute by Iaquinta who put one in on a cross from Giovico. Iaquinta also scored the equalizer during injury time of the first half, giving Juve a draw. Juventus was without their goalie Buffon and his substitute Alexander Manninger was rather on the shaky side.
Aalborg Stadium- Aalborg
Dimitar Berbatov finally got the monkey of his back after he scored two goals tonight against Aalborg BK. The Danish champions weren’t much of a match for the well oiled Manchester United machine. Rooney scored in the 22nd minute and Berbatov added two more in the second half. Alex Ferguson was forced to make three substitutions after Rooney, Rafael Da Silva and Scholes left the field with injuries. Paul Scholes’ injury seems to be the be the most serious of them all and he may be out for some time.
