NY Red Bulls-Dynamo Houston
A late goal from Dynamo’s Kei Kamara gave his team a decent chance to advance to the next round of the MLS Cup playoffs. Juan Pablo Angel put the Red Bulls ahead in the 48th minute from eight yards on a cross from Wolyniec. A couple of minutes later Dane Richards had a chance to make it 2-0 but defender Richard Mulrooney stopped the ball. Houston stepped up the pressure and with five minutes to go in regular time Kamara picked up a loose ball and scored the precious equalizer. The Red Bulls will travel to Houston for a second match on Sunday, November 9.
Real Salt Lake-Chivas USA
Fans in Rio Tinto Stadium saw their team on attack throughout most of the match but had to wait for a goal all the way to the very end. Real was clearly the more aggressive team with a balance of 10-1 shots on goal and 7 corner kicks compared to 0 for Chivas. But it wasn’t until the 90th minute when forward Yura Movsisyan scored the winning goal. That gives Real the edge going to California and Chivas will need a better show if the want to stay alive in the playoffs.
Columbus Crew-Kansas City Wizards
Another match and another late goal this time in injury time. Columbus Crew was the favorite going into this match but Kansas City had a different idea. The match started with both teams going back and forth and Crew having a slight advantage. Then came the 53rd minute. Kansas’ cross from Lopez into the box ended in the net by a Davy Arnaud diving header. Columbus answered back with more pressure and several good chances. The Wizards were holding on when they suffered a major setback after Hercules Gonzales was sent off in the 75th minute for a foul. Crew could smell opportunities but had to wait till injury time when substitute Steven Lenhart beat Kansas’ goalie Hartman.
