Manchester City’s Last Minute Loss…

FC Copenhagen-Manchester City

Copenhagen’s last minute goal robbed Manchester of certain victory. The Danish team who was trialing Manchester throughout the match leveled the score in the 90th minute on a goal from substitute Martin Vingard. Nedum Onuoha scored for City in the 29th minute and Stephen Ireland in the 6st minute . The late equalizer showed continued problems with Manchester’s defense. Looking on the positive site, Manchester took home with them the two away goal advantage.

Lech Poznan-Udinese

A frozen field and snowy conditions were the main factor in tonight’s match. Udinese striker Fabio Quagliarella opened the score in the 50th minute on a pass from a free kick. Then an unfortunate own goal five minutes later by Poznan defender Manuel Arboleda gave Udinese a two-goal lead. But the last ten minutes of the match belonged to the host team. First Rengifo made it 2-1 and then in the 84th minute Arboleda secured the tie for his team with a header after a corner kick.

Shakhtar Donetsk-Tottenham

Two late goals gave the host team the advantage for the second leg in England. Shakhtar dominated the first half with a few good opportunities but no goals. Tottenham with many unfamiliar faces provided a good defense, not an easy task in the sub-zero temperature. When it was starting to look like it would end in a draw.  Shakhtar’s substitute Seleznov headed one in from a free kick pass. Then one of the four Brazilians on the team, Rodrigues Jadson, scored from inside the penalty box on final 2-0. The Spurs now face a difficult time of playing 6 matches in 17 days. The second leg of this match is only a couple of days before the Carling cup final at Wembley against Manchester United.

Fiorentina-Ajax Amsterdam

Ajax had only a hand full of chances tonight but one of them ended in Fiorentina’s net giving the surprise win. Fiorentina was better coming up with a lot more chances, but couldn’t finish them.  Adrian Mutu came very close but his goal was disallowed because of offside. Kennedy Bakircioglu scored the only goal in the 60th minute from close range. The victory gave Ajax a good chance to advance to the UEFA Cup round of 16.
