Inter Gains An 8 Point Cushion

Serie A

Inter Milan’s 1 – 0 win with Lazio gave them an 8 point cushion at the top. Distance second city rival AC Milan had their match with Fiorentina postponed due to heavy snow.

Several other matches were also canceled because of weather.

Juventus struggle continues with a 2 – 1 home defeat to bottom of the standings Catania.

Primera Liga

Primera Liga teams played their last matches before two weeks of  winter break.

Barcelona was in Abu Dhabi were they won FIFA World Cup UEA 2009 by beating Estudiante of Argentina 2 – 1 in the final.

Espanyol beat Almeria 2 – 0 and that ended their five match losing streak.

Valencia only managed scoreless tie with Deportivo.

Real Madrid destroyed Real Zaragoza with a 6 – 0 win. Gonzalo Higuain and Rafael van der Vaart each scored two goals with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema adding the rest.

Real is now only two points from reaching the top spot in Primera Liga.

Bundesliga

Bayern Munich closed the 2009 with bang by beating the last team in the Bundesliga, Hertha Berlin by a score of 5 – 2.

Ten-man Hamburg overcame Werder Bremen 2 – 1, staying in the race for the title.

VfB Stuttgart under their new coach Christian Gross left the relegation zone behind with a 3 – 1 win over TSG Hoffenheim.

Bayer Leverkusen’s 3 – 2 win with Borussia Moenchengladbach kept the team in first place in the standings, but only by one point ahead of second Schalke 04.

Premier League

West Ham managed to hold Chelsea to a 1 – 1 tie with both goals scored from penalty kicks.

Saturday Manchester United suffered shocking 3 – 0  defeat in hands of Fulham.

Same goes for Liverpool loss against last team of the Premier League Portsmouth. Coach Rafa Benitez’s position is getting little bit on shaky side with only 8 wins from 18 matches.

Manchester City despite winning 4 – 3 against Sunderland sacked their coach Mark Hughes without any prior warning.

Arsenal is back in the third spot with a 3 – 0 win over Hull City.

Ligue 1

Leader Bordeaux recorded a crushing 4 – 1 win on Lorient. They are leading the standings by 8 points ahead of second Marseille who played to a scoreless draw at St Etienne.

Seven times Ligue 1 champion Lyon continues to drop points with only a 1 – 1 tie against Monaco.

Montpellier suffered a 2 – 0 home defeat against AS Nancy Lorraine in front of closed stadium.
